The volunteer firefighter who was was critically injured during the April 24 fire in Reisterstown died Thursday at Maryland Shock Trauma. His funeral is set for Sunday.
It was a horrific fire April 24 that the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company was called to control. Volunteer firefighter Gene Kirchner, 25, and several others were searching the home at 19 Hanover Rd., trying to find a resident because "very, very agitated residents were screaming that someone was trapped," Baltimore County Fire Chief John Hohman said during a press conference Thursday afternoon. "Gene and others, they attempted to rescue the individual," Hohman said, calling the fire "horrific." UPDATE (2:30 p.m.)--Volunteer Firefighter Gene Kirchner died Thursday afternoon at Maryland Shock Trauma, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. The member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire company was critically injured April 24 while doing a search during a house fire at 19 Hanover Rd in Reisterstown. "It is with deep sorrow and regret that the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company announces the line of duty passing of Firefighter Gene Kirchner," according to a statement from the fire company. "Gene succumbed to his injures after an 8-day fight." Gene was a 9-year member of the fire company, and was a junior firefighter for 2 years, it states. The investigation was spurred by the discovery of skeletal remains Wednesday in Reisterstown.
Baltimore County police continue to investigate the discovery of a dead body, days after uncovering the remains of a human hand in Reisterstown, according to a media advisory. The body of an unidentified male was discovered in the Hanover Pike and Butler Road area Saturday morning. “Police investigators had returned to the area to conduct a detailed search after a human hand had been found earlier in the week near the 300-block of Hedgepocket Way, 21136,” the release states. Police have not yet identified the corpse, nor have they provided a description at this time. The remains have been transported to the the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Marsha Samlal, the aunt of missing teen Sasha Samlal, said it is out of her character for her niece to leave home and not communicate with her family for almost two months.
Marsha Samlal knew it was out of character for her niece to leave home and not contact her family. Almost two months later, she is still perplexed by Sasha Arianna Samlal’s disappearance. “It just doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t add up,” Marsha Samlal said. “Something more is going on here.” Sasha was last seen on Sept. 21 wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans. She is described as an Indian female with long black hair, brown eyes, a medium complexion, 5 feet and 3 inches tall and 140 pounds. According to police, Sasha, 16, of the unit block of Gloucester Court, was last seen getting into a small black Honda with tinted windows and a white Honda sticker across the top windshield.
