A police trainee was shot during a training exercise in Owings Mills Tuesday afternoon.
A University of Maryland police trainee was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma after being shot during a training exercise Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed. Baltimore City Police have a training facility on Rosewood Lane in Owings Mills, but Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman, could only confirm that the incident occurred in Owings Mills at 2:36 p.m. ABC2 News reported that the incident happened at the Rosewood Center on Rosewood Lane. At 3 p.m., Carter-Watson said the trainee was being transported by medevac to Maryland Shock Trauma. The nature of the injuries was still under investigation, she said. An off-duty Baltimore City Police officer was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment after pointing his departmentally-issued handgun at people in Towson. Matthew David Daugherty, 28, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning and later released on $75,000 bail. Baltimore County Police responded to the Rec Room at 512 York Road in Towson at 2:15 a.m., where an employee told them an intoxicated off-duty city officer was acting belligerent and saying he had a gun. The employee took car keys from the man as the bar was closing because he appeared too intoxicated to drive, according to a police press release. A bill authorizing gambling expansion in Maryland will likely be amended, according to the chairman of the House subcommittee that is holding hearings on the legislation. Del. Frank Turner, a Howard County Democrat, initially characterized possible changes to the bill passed Friday by the Senate as minor.
