Schtick and Shenanigans on Stage
The Catonsville Community Theater is celebrating 15 years in existence with Neil Simon's classic, The Sunshine Boys.
Mickey Clark-Braverman looks over at one of her actors on stage because he's not quite in the right place. She's doing what's called blocking the scene in theater parlance, and she tells him: "You're in the shadows, come into the light." In another scene between a doctor and a patient, the doctor exhorts the patient to open wider. "Ah, Ah!!" the patient complies. "Wider, wider!" the doctor insists as the patient opens it as wide as humanly possible and the doctor pretends to use a tongue depressor. "Your throat is alright," the doctor decides. "But you'll have a problem with your stomach." "Why?" "Cause you just swallowed the stick." Braverman tells the patient to hold his backside as he runs out of the doctor's office.
