Overnight Wilkens Avenue Closures Start Wednesday

The closures could last up to 10 nights as crews set new steel beams.

State highway crews will close Wilkens Avenue over the Baltimore Beltway for about 10 nights beginning Wednesday night, officials announced in a press release. During the closures, crews will set new steel beams over Wilkens Avenue for the second half of the new inner loop bridge over the street, according to a press release. The work is part of a $13 million project to replace the bridge. The first half was completed in November. The closures will begin at 11 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. each night. US 40 Construction Will Bring Lane Closures, Delays

A new traffic pattern will be in place starting Thursday on US 40 at the Patapsco River Bridge.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) announced Wednesday that there’s going to be a new traffic pattern – and delays coming with it -- on US 40 at the Patapsco River Bridge starting Thursday as part of a bridge reconstruction project. An SHA release said the traffic will be cut down to one lane on Baltimore National Pike at the Patapsco River Bridge, something that will remain in place until the late spring. Crews will take apart a temporary bridge which kept two lanes of traffic in place in both directions while the old bridge was reconstructed. Traffic going east had been moved onto the reconstructed bridge on Dec. 20. As long as there are no weather issues, crews are going to move westbound traffic onto the rehabilitated bridge …

SHA: Stay Off the Roads Early Thursday

Icy conditions could occur at the onset of the morning rush hour.

The Maryland State Highway Administration strongly urges motorists to avoid traveling early Thursday morning, especially before dawn. "Stay off the roads early [Thursday] morning, so that SHA crews have the opportunity to proactively treat roadways before morning rush hour," SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters said in a news release. "When you step out and see ice on your doorstep, you can assume that roads will be icy as well. Also remember that conditions can change rapidly within just a few miles, and we ask motorists to remain on guard and exercise extreme caution tonight and tomorrow morning." The SHA warns that those traveling during inclement weather and poor conditions pose a threat to themselves, first responders and other drivers…

Beltway in Catonsville Area Re-opened Without Incident

SHA shut down both sides of Beltway in the area to remove sign, but everything opened back up on Saturday morning.

The Beltway re-opened Saturday morning after the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) shut down both directions the previous night to remove a sign structure that needed attention. The affected area was between the US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) and the Edmondson Avenue exits, and SHA crews started shutting it down at 10 p.m. Detours were put in place for drivers so the sign could be removed. After the work was done, the SHA was able to re-open the Beltway at around 7 a.m. That was about two hours later than hoped for, but it didn’t affect much. “It didn’t affect much,” SHA spokesperson Charlie Gischlar said on Monday. “We had to close the Beltway. We had to detour traffic.” A recent inspection found a problem with the sign that …

SHA To Remove Sign on Beltway Friday Night

The work will be done in the Catonsville area, causing detours with everything re-opening Saturday by 5 a.m.

The State Highway Administration announced late on Friday that it will be removing a local sign structure starting this evening. In a press release, the SHA said it's going to "remove a sign structure that spans I-695 between the US 40 and Edmondson Avenue exits. The sign should be removed and lanes open by 5 a.m. Saturday." There will be crews in place to start taking down the sign at 10 p.m., beginning with the lanes on the inner loop, and total closure will come at midnight so the whole sign structure can be taken down. This is a list of the Beltway detours that are going to be in place during the work, according to the release: • Outer loop I-695 to westbound Route 40 to a left turn on to North Rolling Road to a left onto MD 144 (…

Route 40 Traffic Patterns to Change Wednesday

The Maryland State Highway Administration is planning to route traffic back onto the Patapsco Bridge after two years of renovation work.

Welcome to the newly renovated Patapsco River Bridge, if you’re driving eastbound, that is. The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) plans to shift eastbound traffic on US Route 40 onto the rehabilitated bridge after almost two years of construction, which saw the construction of a temporary bridge.  Weather permitting, eastbound traffic will be shifted from the temporary bridge to the reconstructed, original bridge on Wednesday, Dec. 19 between 9 a.m. and 3p.m., according to a statement.   Drivers should expect temporary lane closures and lane shifts, but once the switchover is complete, the westbound side of Route 40 will be open to two lanes. On Thursday, Dec. 27, westbound traffic will be shifted onto its side of the …

SHA Closing Section of B-W Parkway for Two Upcoming Weekends

Commuters take note: crews will be replacing two overpass bridges in Linthicum.

A section of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, MD-295, in Linthicum will be shut down on two Friday nights and Saturday nights in October, according to a statement from the Maryland State Highway Administration. Traffic crews will detour vehicles into single lanes during construction hours, using the ramps from West Nursery Road, but SHA is telling drivers to use other routes. "For the safety of work crews and drivers, SHA is urging motorists to plan now for overnight travel on these weekends. Use MD 5-1-1 to determine the best alternate routes," said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters, in a press release. According to the SHA, crews are currently constructing two bridges for the overpass of West Nursery Road in the median of MD-295, and …

Road Work on I-95 to Begin Sunday

Crews will be patching road in project that will last as long as temperatures permit.

If you plan on taking I-95 through southwest Baltimore County during the evenings anytime soon, the Maryland State Highway Administration recommends that you allow extra travel time. Crews will begin pavement repair along I-95 beginning this Sunday night, and the nighttime work will last as long as temperatures permit through the late fall—and into next spring if necessary. The work will extend along I-95 between the Howard/Baltimore County line and the Baltimore County/City line, according to an SHA release. Single lane closures along I-95 may begin at 7 p.m., with double lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. and ending by 5 a.m. the next morning. Ramp from inner loop to eastbound Security Boulevard closed on weeknights for the next month.

The Maryland State Highway Administration announced the temporary closure of the ramp from the inner loop of the I-695 beltway to eastbound Security Boulevard on weekday nights beginning on Sept. 26. The closure is necessary for Baltimore Gas and Electric crews to perform maintenance on a natural gas pipeline beneath the ramp, the SHA wrote in a release. Gas service to BGE customers will not be disrupted during the project, according to the SHA. The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m the following morning, from Sunday through Thursday nights, according to SHA. Work is expected to last about a month, SHA said in the release.
