Police: Bloody Clothes Found in Grandson's Bedroom after Homicides

Charging documents state that bloody shorts and socks were found in a plastic bag in Pikesville resident Matthew Long's bedroom after his grandparents were found murdered.

A typical call to check on elderly Pikesville residents turned grisly last month when police discovered the scene of a double homicide. Vaughn Pepper, 87, lay on the first floor, dead from blunt-force trauma, according to the charging document released Thursday by the Baltmore County Police Department. He had wounds on his head and a bloody barbell was beside him. There were "several circular holes in the chest area, leaving open the possibility that he may have been shot or stabbed in addition to being hit with the dumbbell," the document states. Suspect in His Own Grandparents' Homicides Still in OK

Matthew Long, the Pikesville man who police suspect of killing his grandparents with dumbells and a knife, is still in Oklahoma. According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Long is still in custody, awaiting extradition to Baltimore County. On Friday, the sheriff's office released a mugshot of Long. He was charged this week with two counts of first-degree murder in the suspicious deaths of his elderly grandparents, Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper of Sudbrook Park. Long had been living with his grandparents for years, neighbors state. Double-Homicide Suspect Attempts Suicide in Oklahoma

Matthew Long of Pikesville ran to Oklahoma, but he may not have been able to escape what police say he did in a Sudbrook Park home. Long, 31, who is, so far, the sole suspect in his grandparents' double-homicide investigation, arrived in Oklahoma on Sept. 9, the day after, police believe, his grandparents died from blunt-and sharp-trauma injuries in their Olmstead Road home. Baltimore County police found the bodies of Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper, ages 87 and 85, respectively, on the afternoon of Sept. 10. Police: Dumbbells, Knife Used To Kill Elderly Couple

Matthew Long, a Pikesville resident, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his grandparents, and is being held in an Oklahoma detention center.

Twenty-pound dumbbells and a knife were the weapons used to kill longtime Sudbrook Park residents Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper. According to Baltimore County police, the dumbbells have been recovered, but the knife has not. The Peppers died of blunt- and sharp-force trauma, according to a news release Wednesday. Police also say that Matthew Long, 31, their grandson and suspect in their suspicious deaths, was found unconscious in a motel room in Weatherford, OK, by Oklahoma police. Police in Oklahoma: Pikesville Couple's Grandson Found 'Unresponsive'

Police in Weatherford, Oklahoma found homicide suspect Matthew Long last week because he didn't check out of his hotel on time. According to a report in The Baltimore Sun, on Tuesday, an employee at a hotel called Weatherford police, who found the Pikesville resident "unresponsive." He had taken prescription medication and had been on his way to California, the report states. Long, who had lived with his grandparents in their Sudbrook Park home, was missing Sept. 10 when police found his grandparents, Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper, dead, and with traumatic wounds. Police: Grandson Suspected in Double Homicide, Found in Oklahoma

Matthew Long, the 31-year-old grandson who has been missing after his grandparents were found dead in their Sudbrook Park home, is in a hospital.

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.) It's the day of Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper's funeral, but there's one family member who won't attend the 11 a.m. service in Dorchester County. Matthew Long, their 31-year-old grandson, is now a suspect in the double homicide but is currently in an Oklahoma hospital, according to a news release from Baltimore County police. "Detectives have traveled to Oklahoma as part of this investigation," the release states. "Matthew Long has not been interviewed yet due to his medical condition, but detectives are now considering him a suspect in the murders." UPDATE: Police Identify Grandson of Couple Found Dead Monday

Police are looking for Matthew Long who lived in Sudbrook Park with his grandparents, and a neighbor said it's uncharacteristic of the grandson to be gone at all.

UPDATE (9:04 a.m. Sept. 12) Police have identified the 31-year-old grandson of the couple found dead Monday in their Pikesville home. Meanwhile, a neighbor says the fact that he is now missing is "so weird." Matthew Long lived with the victims, Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper, according to a news release from Baltimore County police. Police found the couple's bodies at just after 4 p.m. Monday in their home at 800 Olmstead Road in historic, wooded Sudbrook Park. They had suffered traumatic wounds and there were no signs of forced entry to the Pepper's home. Homicide detectives are investigating and want to speak with Long, police announced Tuesday. Police suspect foul play after discovering the bodies of two elderly residents who had suffered traumatic injuries at their Sudbrook Park home in Pikesville.

UPDATE (10:15 p.m.) Camera flashes flickered through the windows of an Olmstead Road home Monday evening as detectives inside investigated a double homicide. Police say they found an elderly man and woman dead in the Sudbrook Park home shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. The as yet unidentified pair suffered traumatic wounds, according to Cpl. John Wachter, police spokesman. The man was found on floor of the first level. The woman was found on the basement floor, he said.
