Catonsville Community Member Wins Chili Cook-off

Catonsville community member Barbara Truckenbrodt wins St. John's United Church of Christ's Second Annual Chili Cook-off

“The most heavenly chili that burns like the fires of hell award goes to Barbara Truckenbrodt,” said Rev. Jennifer Glover as she announced the winner of the Second Annual Chili Cook-off at St. John’s United Church of Christ on Sunday. Truckenbrodt saw an ad in the paper for the cookoff and decided to enter this year. “I’m totally flabbergasted,” she said. There was a lot of smelling, tasting and water sipping (and in some cases, water gulping) as each table of community members and congregation geared up to judge the 25 pots of chili entered in the competition. That number has over doubled from the 11 pots at last year’s chili cook-off. “We have more pots of chili than we have wiring in the kitchen. If we plugged them all in at the same …

Children Have Breakfast with Santa

Children at Trinity United Methodist Church had breakfast with Santa, decorated gift bags, and went Chirstmas shopping

Barbie dolls were the No. 1 gift on children's wish lists this year at the Trinity United Methodist Church's 10th annual Breakfast with Santa on December 4, 2010. Children like 3-year-old Breonna Brownwere able share their Christmas wishes with Santa and get their picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. They even walked away with an early Christmas goodie bag. But not all of the presents were for the children. With donated items and gifts from their thrift shop, the church put together a Secret Santa Shop with affordable items intended for children to buy for their family members. Items for sale included "Jiminy Cricket's Christmas" VHS for $0.75, Christmas mugs, jewelry, pins, ties, and Christmas stockings. The children could even get …
