Catonsville Chamber Teacher Awards To Be Held in April

The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce will honor outstanding teachers at a banquet next month.

Catonsville businesses and residents are being called to recognize those who impact education in the community. The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce will hold its second annual Outstanding Teacher Awards banquet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville campus. Former Catonsville 2020 Members Still Seek Frederick Road Improvements

The group merged last year with the economic development committee of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce.

Catonsville 2020 no longer exists, but volunteers say they're still working to improve the Frederick Road corridor after the group merged with a business organization. "We decided, what the heck, we're all volunteers, we value our time. Why are we meeting twice on the same issues," Scott Graham, former co-chairman of Catonsville 2020 who is now in that role for the economic development committee of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce, told the Catonsville Times. "So I just suggested to the group that we fold up our tent, hand off our recommendations to the chamber and give it our remaining budget." Greater Catonsville Chamber to Host Events

There will be a wine tasting and breakfast event coming in the next few weeks.

The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce is going to have a few events in the coming weeks. First will be the Winter Wine Tasting, set for 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Overhills Mansion. It would move to one week later (Feb. 28) if the weather is bad. The cost will be $25 pre-registered and prepaid, or $30 if you come and pay at the door. Attendees can register online for the wine tasting and other chamber events Next month, the chamber's going to have a Breakfast Networking Event, a joint event with the Baltimore County Chamber plus the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber. That is set for 7:30 a.m. March 20, also at the mansion.  The cost for that event is $25 pre-registered and $45 at the door and for non-members.

Catonsville Chamber Sets January Events

The Chamber has two key events scheduled for next month.

The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce has tentatively set two events for January.  The Chamber's New Year Luncheon is set for noon until 2 p.m. on Jan. 10 at The Woman's Club of Catonsville (10 St. Timothy's Lane).  For those interested, the cost is $20 for members at the door and $35 for non-members. More information is available on the chamber's website. The 11th MEGA Networking Event and Trade Show will take place on Jan. 24. That's set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson.  The cost is $25 for pre-registered members, $30 at the door and $35 for non-members. See this page for more information. Catonsville Home Makeover: Inside of a Home Reborn in Academy Heights

A strong sense of community links the row homes that look the same on the outside, by design.

As the owner of Maryland Residential Realty, George Brookhart knows Catonsville well, having grown up in the area. He recalled wanting to live in Academy Heights in the early 1970s but the homes were just beyond his finances at the time. He has lived in other places, including Howard County and Carroll County, but knew he wanted to return to Catonsville. When this home on Northdale Road came on the market, originally he planned to list it. He is a realtor, after all. Instead, he chose to buy it himself.
