UPDATE (10:40 a.m.)—Three lanes have reopened on Interstate 695 after an incident that shut down northbound traffic at Edmondson Avenue for approximately three hours, according to the State Highway Admininstration. The Exit 13 ramp is slated to open again next week.
The exit ramp from the outer loop of Interstate 695 to Frederick Road will re-open again Nov. 29, according to officials from the Maryland State Highway Administration. David Buck, an SHA spokesperson, confirmed the ramp at Exit 13 to Frederick Road is scheduled to re-open next Thursday at 5 a.m. The ramp has been closed for several weeks due to a rebuilding of the first half of the bridge on Frederick Road over the beltway. "It hasn't been a major issue because traffic is able to use either Edmondson or Wilkens," Buck said. "Clearly, this provides direct access into downtown Catonsville." The light was installed by contractors several weeks ago and won't be operational for at least another month.
As more drivers may be detouring around the Frederick Road bridge in Catonsville to avoid construction, state contractors have added one upgrade to a neighboring road to respond to the additional car volume. A traffic light has been installed at the Edmondson Avenue exit at Interstate 695 by contractors with State Highway Administration. The light appeared roughly two weeks ago but is still covered up. The light has been installed prior to the entrance ramp to the Baltimore Beltway at Edmondson Avenue adjacent to the Royal Farms. While SHA officials told Patch that the light would not be operational for at least another month, the installation is tied to construction on the bridge.
