Umami Global Bistro opened on Frederick Road in January.
Rehan Khan was excited to turn the former Tiffany’s Pizza on Frederick Road into a sit-down restaurant, but renovations forced him to keep the building closed for more than two years. “We had to gut out everything, start all over,” he said. After replacing virtually everything in the place, including building a brand-new kitchen, Khan opened Umami Global Bistro on January 25. While he kept the pizza and burgers, Khan’s restaurant specializes in Mediterranean cuisine like shawarma, falafel, hummus, gyros and babaganoush. Umami uses all organic meat, and the lamb and beef is all grass-fed. While going the extra mile for those ingredients is a lot of work, Khan believes the freshness and health benefits of unprocessed food is worth it in the …

The restaurant's owner attended a Design Review Panel meeting last week.
Plans are moving ahead for an expansion of the Frederick Road McDonald's. The Catonsville Times reports franchise owner Jim Bower plans to renovate the restaurant to add 25 seats, a faster drive-through and an exit from the parking lot to Delrey Avenue. Bower discussed the plans at a Design Review Panel hearing in Towson on Wednesday, the newspaper reports. Bower told the paper he plans to meet with the Paradise Community Association next month, and begin construction once the project receives permits. The new drive-through will include a second menu and ordering stand, and a third window, where customers can pull up to wait if their food is not yet ready. "At our drive-through right now, you have one spot where you give your order and you…

Sean Dunworth said that nothing will change with the restaurant.
(UPDATED TUESDAY) Sean Dunworth, the co-owner of Catonsville Gourmet and founder of Regions, has sold Catonsville Gourmet. Dunworth said he couldn't speak more about the sale or the details because the deal was still being finalized. The popular Frederick Road seafood restaurant was sold to restaurant owner Craig Rinkerman, who Dunworth said does not own any restaurants in the area. Dunworth said his decision was a business decision. "I built the business up and it's a good thing for me," he said. "I loved what I was doing, but ready for the next adventure." The day-to-day operations of the restaurants will not change, Dunworth said, including anything with the staff. It is expected that Chef Rob Rehmert will stay on. Catonsville Gourmet …

The promotion features 38 restaurants and begins Friday.
Baltimore County is rolling out the white tablecloth for this year's summer restaurant week. County officials and business leaders marked the start of the week-plus affair with an opening event at Towson. The event at Cafe Troia featured samples from that restaurant and five other participating eateries: Barrett's Grill in Hunt Valley, Basta Pasta in Timonium, Island View Waterfront Cafe in Essex, The Milton Inn in Sparks and Towson Tavern. Catonsville only has one restaurant participating: The Candle Light Inn. Many Catonsville restaurants instead particpate in the Catonsville Restaurant Week sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. This year's summer restaurant week runs from this Friday, Aug. 10 to Aug. 19 and includes specials ranging …

The Frederick Road restaurant owners needed more space that they could utilize year round.
While many patrons loved the covered deck upstairs at Ship's Cafe, the space was only used during the days when the weather was nice. But owners Jim and Sharon Andrews have needed more seating year round and can't expand anywhere else on the Frederick Road property. "We're bursting at the seams," Sharon Andrews told Patch Wednesday. So the owners decided to enclose the deck, adding siding and windows. Now, they have seating for 32 all year, she said. The upstairs area still feels like a outside seating, with eight double windows that can open when the weather is warm. The screens are invisible, giving dinners a better view of Frederick Road. The room will soon be open to diners every day after a few more finishing touches are made to the …
