Although Falls Church High School Football Coach Said Aziz thinks the 49ers are going to win the Super Bowl, he hopes Smith, who he coached in 2005, has a great game.
Ask Falls Church High School Head Football Coach Said Aziz whom he thinks will win Super Bowl XLVII and he won’t hesitate to say it’s the San Francisco 49ers. Aziz, however, does want to his former Stafford High School player and now Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, to have a good game. In 2005 when Smith was quarterback at Stafford in Northern Virginia, Aziz was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator. “He was a really good kid,” Aziz said Friday. “I do want Torrey to have a good game.” According to the Ravens website, before playing his college football at the University of Maryland, Smith earned honorable mention All-Northwest Region as a quarterback his senior year. Smith also earned All-District academic honors …

When we posted the first video, Patch commenters identified the band's guitarist as a member of a band that played at The Barn. Watch their Super Bowl themed Ravens video.
First it was "Bring On Brady" but, with the AFC Championship locked up and the Super Bowl less than a week away, once again Matt Robins has uploaded a Ravens-themed cover song to YouTube. Last time around Robins, his wife Sarah, and dad Stan Robins, came up with an inventive cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Now they take on Fun.'s "Some Nights" with a Baltimore twist. Check out the cover in the video attached to this article. Lyrics are posted below. When we posted the first video a couple weeks ago some Patch readers noticed that Stan Robins, who plays the guitar in both videos, is somewhat well known around Parkville. Though the entire family lives in Salisbury these days, Stan was formerly the guitarist for local band Crash …
Super Bowl XLVII pits the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh against the Ravens' John Harbaugh. Patch shares the story of the Harbaugh family leading into Super Bowl Sunday.
They'll take an objective approach Sunday. Jackie Harbaugh and her daughter, Joani, vow to wear neutral clothes. Jack Harbaugh said he'll take off his coach's hat and just play the role of Dad. When it comes to Super Bowl coaches John and Jim Harbaugh, their family doesn't play favorites. But that didn't stop John from interrupting a nationwide media conference call last week to double-check. "Is it true that both of you like Jim better than John?," asked a Baltimore caller named John. Joani knew immediately that the voice on the other end was her brother. But there was a dramatic pause from Momma Harbaugh. "Is that John?," Jackie finally asked. "Is that John Harbaugh?" Dad followed up, amid laughter. "Mom was ready to come right through …

Super Bowl XLVII pits the 49ers' Jim Harbaugh against the Ravens' John Harbaugh. Patch shares the story of the Harbaugh family leading into Super Bowl Sunday.
It has been called the Harbaugh Bowl—or the HarBowl for short. But the Harbaugh family—whose sons, Jim and John, will be coaching the teams playing for the NFL crown—has its own thoughts on what Super Bowl XLVII should be called. Jackie Harbaugh, mother of Jim and John, was the first to chime in on a national media conference call last week. “I prefer it to be called the Super Bowl," she said, matter-of-factly. Jack Harbaugh, the patriarch and former college football coach, was rather no-nonsense in his opinion, too. "For us, for me, it’s the Lombardi Trophy, because I go back to the beginning," Jack Harbaugh said. "I can remember the beginning of this great, great classic originated with Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers winning …
The Halethorpe brewery is part of the bet between politicians from Maryland and California.
Heavy Seas beer is earning some publicity this week thanks to a Super Bowl bet between senators from Maryland and California. WJZ reported Monday that Maryland Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski have made a wager with California Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein over Sunday's Super Bowl between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The game will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start and will air on CBS. The senators are betting things from their areas, according to the report. The Maryland politicians are offering Faidley’s crab cakes, Berger cookies and Heavy Seas beer plus a can of one of Baltimore’s favorite hairsprays from Mikulski. Senators Boxer and Feinstein…
Fans gathered at the Inner Harbor to cheer on the Ravens as they left for New Orleans on Monday. The Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers meet at the Superdome on Sunday.
The ice and rain Monday morning didn't stop the Baltimore faithful from crowding the Inner Harbor to rally around the Ravens as they departed for New Orleans and Super Bowl XLVII. Lucky kids who got off school sat on shoulders, 20-somethings belted Ravens chants and several of the football players themselves were seen snapping photos and video of the send-off. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis gave credit to the fans, without whom the franchise would not exist. "Baltimore, Baltimore—there is no Ravens without you guys," said Lewis, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the postseason. "We did this in 2000, and we're not going to New Orleans for nothing else but to bring back another ring to Baltimore." Gov. Martin O'…
