Westchester Community Races for Playground
First-ever Turkey Trot raises funds for new playground equipment at the school.
It may have been the shortest 5K in history, but 100 parents, community members and students still had a fun Turkey Trot Monday afternoon to raise funds for a new playground at Westchester Elementary School. Organizer Tina Stout said 104 people participated in the fund-raiser and at least $1,400 was raised. Parents at the school thought a Turkey Trot would be a good event to raise funds. "We wanted something that's active for the families and the kids," Stout said. Children first participated in laps around the school grounds that totaled 1.4 miles.
