Chief: Gene Kirchner Was Searching for Man Trapped in Fire

The volunteer firefighter who was was critically injured during the April 24 fire in Reisterstown died Thursday at Maryland Shock Trauma. His funeral is set for Sunday.

It was a horrific fire April 24 that the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company was called to control. Volunteer firefighter Gene Kirchner, 25, and several others were searching the home at 19 Hanover Rd., trying to find a resident because "very, very agitated residents were screaming that someone was trapped," Baltimore County Fire Chief John Hohman said during a press conference Thursday afternoon. "Gene and others, they attempted to rescue the individual," Hohman said, calling the fire "horrific." Kirchner, a nine-year veteran of the company, died on Thursday at Maryland Shock Trauma after spending eight days in critical condition. UPDATE: Reisterstown Firefighter Gene Kirchner Dies in Hospital

The 25-year-old is the second fatality from a house fire April 24 at 19 Hanover Road in Reisterstown.

UPDATE (2:30 p.m.)--Volunteer Firefighter Gene Kirchner died Thursday afternoon at Maryland Shock Trauma, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. The member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire company was critically injured April 24 while doing a search during a house fire at 19 Hanover Rd in Reisterstown. "It is with deep sorrow and regret that the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company announces the line of duty passing of Firefighter Gene Kirchner," according to a statement from the fire company. "Gene succumbed to his injures after an 8-day fight." Gene was a 9-year member of the fire company, and was a junior firefighter for 2 years, it states. Catonsville Landscaper Dies on the Job in Howard County

Michael Dingle owned Natural Way Design and Landscaping.

The owner of a Catonsville landscaping company died Tuesday when he fell along with the tree he was cutting down, according to Howard County Police. Police found Michael Joseph Dingle, 40, unconscious and not breathing just after 10 a.m. when they responded to the 8500 block of Reservoir Road in Clarksville.  According to police, Dingle, owner of Natural Way Design and Landscaping, was working in a tree with all of the rigging attached. Police say Dingle and his employee removed the top 15 to 20 feet of the tree; it went as planned. After removing the top of the tree, however, the trunk uprooted, according to police. Dingle fell about 50 feet while still attached to the tree. When police and EMS arrived, they were unable to resuscitate …

Legendary Orioles Manager Earl Weaver Dies, Baltimore Area Reacts

Earl Weaver's sudden death at 82 years old has rocked the Baltimore area and baseball aficionados nationwide.  Weaver died around 2 a.m. Saturday while on board an Orioles fantasy cruise in the Caribbean. His wife, Marianna, was at his side when he succumbed to a heart attack, the New York Daily News reported.  The news broke while many fans were headed to the Orioles' annual FanFest at the Baltimore Convention Center, across the street from Camden Yards.
