We started going to FRVH in 9/11 when we found a stray cat in our neighborhood & wanted to take it in but needed to have it checked to make sure it didn't have any issues, especially communicable diseases that it could give to our other cat. We had been going to another vet on Frederick Road for 20 years with our previous 5 cats & the current one. One would THINK that we would be able to get one of the evening appointments set aside for such cases and other emergencies; one would be wrong. It was going to take a week to get in after 4 p.m. & that wasn't acceptable, so I tried FRVH & I'm SO happy I did.
The Drs. Zakai are wonderful with our cats, both for routine physicals & shots as well as surgeries for neutering, removal of a rubber nozzle that the ktten found & swallowed & for an ear issue with our older cat. No, we still don't know where the kitten found the rubber nozzle but it could have easily killed him since it was blocking the entrance to his intestine.
The doctors & staff are great; everything is explained & discussed & my input means something. My teenage daughter isn't ignored by the doctors & they pay attention to her her observations & comments (she was totally ignored by the other vets.) We are able to get appointments when we need them (although now that FRVH is getting busier, I'm better about scheduling in advance). Price-wise, they are equivalent to our old vets, but I wasn't looking for low cost, just available & competent care.
We became acquainted with FRVH in late 2011, when our dog started having "issues." His issues turned out to be inoperable tumors :-( and Drs. Zakei were extremely helpful in keeping our dog comfortable for an additional 5 weeks or so before we euthanized him. The doctors and staff were wonderful to us throughout the process of caring for our dog in his last days, and during the difficult process of euthanizing our pet. Dr. Lisa Zakei even loaned us (from her family library) a book to help our young children learn about "doggie heaven."
Although we are not ready (yet) to get another dog, when we do -- we will be using FRVH for all of our future pets' needs.

I used to take mycat to PetSmart to have her claws clipped. Always had to call ahead to see if a groomer was there, sometimes was told there was, then would take the cat and no groomer. To top it off, my usually docile cat HATED it, hissed and clawed when there. Started taking her to FRVH and the change was phenomenal! Staff is so caring and attentive, my cat is now calm and no more hissing or clawing. Always easy to get an appointment time that's convenient for me. Great facility!
