It's less than a month from Catonsville's biggest event, the Fourth of July parade.
The Catonsville Celebrations Committee has been planning all year for the event and they need your help.
Here are some of the needs of the committee:
On July 3:
Sandwich makers: The day before the parade, a group of kids get together and assemble more than 1,000 lunches for the bands that are participating in the parade. The sandwiches will be made at the at 12 p.m.
Staking: The committee needs a crew of "stakers" to help cordon off areas of for the fireworks. Duties include hammering stakes into the ground and tying yellow tape around stakes. Volunteers are needed at 2 p.m. at the high school and at 5 p.m. on Montrose Avenue.
On July 4:
Banner carriers: The committee needs children and adults to carry sponsorship banners in the parade. This opportunity is perfect for middle school and high school kids who need student service learning hours.
Parade marshals: During the parade, the commitee needs volunteers to help on the parade route. Marshals make sure the parade route is clear at all times and that the parade is flowing smoothly.
Collectors: The committee needs volunteers to collect money on the parade route and at the fireworks.
Handicapped parking: For the past few years, there hasn't been fireworks parking available for cars with handicap parking passes. This year, the high school parking lot will be open. The committee needs four volunteers to guard the entrance of the high school cafeteria parking lot from 5 p.m.–9 p.m. and check handicapped tags and permits.
