Catonsville Schools Collect SPCA Donations

Two Catonsville schools will drop off food and supplies donations at the Maryland SPCA in Baltimore Friday.

Angela McLean said it wasn’t hard to get the Catonsville community to rally behind a good cause.

“It seems like if you ask, they’ll do it and ask what else can they do,” she said. “It’s incredible.”

McLean, along with students from Catonsville Middle and Hillcrest Elementary schools, plan to drop off a large amount of food and supplies donations at the Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Baltimore tomorrow.

The donations came from students, parents as well community members, McLean said. My Pet Store and More in Ellicott City also donated $300 worth of supplies.

This is the second drive the schools have done for the SPCA. In December, about 30 students, parents and teachers filled six vans with pet food, treats, toys, towels and other supplies. Since the organization doesn’t receive any funding from the ASPCA, which is the national SCPA, donations from the community are crucial.

“Anything we’re able to do, we do because people support us,” said Tina Regester, spokeswoman for MDSPCA. The organization adopts out about 3,000 pets a year, she said.

After the donations are dropped off at 4 p.m. Friday, students, teachers and parents will get a tour of the facility at 3300 Falls Road, and get a chance to play with the animals.

And if they want, they can take home a new member of the family.
