UMBC Women's Lacrosse Sets Fall Events Schedule

UMBC women’s lacrosse co-head coaches Amy Appelt and Tony Giro have announced the team’s fall events, which include a 5K race, two play days, the annual alumni game and a crab feast.

The squad will open up the fall on Saturday, Sept. 21, by participating in the 11th-Annual Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Walk, hosted by Loyola University. A Baltimore native, Geppi-Aikens graduated from Loyola College in 1984 and went on to serve as the school’s volleyball coach (five years) and women’s lacrosse coach (15 years). During her time at the helm of the lacrosse program, Geppi-Aikens posted 14 winning seasons, despite being diagnosed with brain cancer in 1995. Geppi-Aikens lost her fight with cancer in June of 2003. The run/walk now benefits the Diane Geppi-Aikens Endowed Scholarship.

The Retrievers are set for two play days the following weekend, starting with a three-team play day at UMBC on Friday, Sept. 27. The Dawgs travel to the University of Maryland for its second play day on Sunday, Sept. 29.
