UMBC Women’s Soccer Opens 2012 Campaign Versus Lafayette

The Retrievers host the Leopards on Friday Night

BALTIMORE (Aug. 13, 2012) – The UMBC women’s soccer team, behind first-year head coach Leslie Wray, will open the 2012 season on Friday, Aug. 17 when it hosts Lafayette at the Retriever Soccer Park at 7 p.m.

Admission into the park will be free for Friday’s game or a live stream of the contest can be purchased online at www.umbcretrievers.tv.

Wray begins her UMBC coaching stint after a five-year hiatus from the collegiate coaching ranks. The Retrievers return 10 starters and 12 letterwinners from a year ago, including 2011 America East All-Conference Second Team honoree Rachel McKee, who tallied a team-best seven goals and 14 points last season.

The Leopards enjoyed a successful 2011 campaign, earning the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Lafayette ended its season in the conference semifinals, falling to Navy 3-2 and concluding the year with its best overall mark since 2001 when it went 9-6-2.
