Attackman Scott Jones Selected Seventh Overall by Minnesota in NLL Draft

Former UMBC attackman Scott Jones (Port Coquitlam, B.C./Terry Fox) was selected by the Minnesota Swarm as the seventh selection overall in the 2013 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.  The draft took place at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario on Monday, Sept. 16.

“Congratulations to Scott Jones on being selected seventh overall in the NLL draft,” said UMBC Head Coach Don Zimmerman. “ Everyone associated with the Retriever lacrosse program is delighted for Scott and his family for this well-deserved recognition and wish him continued success as he moves forward into the pro ranks."

Jones was Minnesota’s fourth selection, as the Swarm had obtained four of the first seven picks in the draft.  

“Scott is a big, athletic, right-handed scorer who makes our right-side very formidable,” Swarm owner and governor John Arlotta said. “He’s also a very unselfish player who will fit right into our approach to share the ball on offense. Scott comes very highly recommended as a player who is great both on and off the floor.” 

Jones was the men’s lacrosse team’s offensive leader for the past three seasons. He earned three America East all-conference honors, including first team recognition in 2012, when he finished eighth in the nation in goals scored per game. In 2013, he became the 30th player in school history to record 100 points and currently stands 20th with 117 career points. Jones served as team captain of the Retrievers in his junior and senior seasons and earned all-tournament honors at the 2013 America East Men’s Lacrosse Championships.

Three other Retrievers are currently competing in the NLL. Brendan Mundorf plays for the  Philadelphia Wings, Drew Westervelt just became a member of the  Colorado Mammoth and Jon Harasym competes for the Buffalo Bandits.
