Why the Catonsville Chamber is Moving its Frederick Road Fridays Concert Series

Moving the Frederick Road Fridays concerts

Your Catonsville Chamber of Commerce is always looking for ways to expand and improve our programs and special events to better serve our membership and the community at large. In 2013 we are moving our Taste of Catonsville to the first Monday in June and expanding that event to include cooking demonstrations, live music and outdoor venues. Our crab feast is moving to the last Friday evening in September so we no longer compete with summer vacations.

And we are very excited to report that we are moving our 2013 Frederick Road Fridays concert series to the Mews on Mellor in the parking lot directly in front of Peace A Pizza, just across the street from its current location on Egges Lane. The pluses for this move are many.

The new space is in a large private lot, which gives us ample room to grow the event. The Mews provides substantial parking for our concertgoers and eliminates cars and pedestrians sharing the same parking area. There are trees, which will help provide shade during the hot summer evenings. We will no longer need to secure a permit to close a County road to hold the concerts. We will no longer impinge on other businesses, their employee parking or hours of operation. We plan to make a booth space available each week for a featured Catonsville restaurant to serve food, along with the pizza and delicious menu available at Peace A Pizza.

The chamber will now be partnering with local non-profit groups to serve the beer and wine with the proceeds going back to those community groups and to revitalization projects along the Frederick Road commercial district. The concertgoers will enjoy a large open space and not be confined to a designated “beer garden” area, which will provide a more family friendly atmosphere. We will continue to hire strong local bands for the entertainment. And our sponsors will enjoy extra exposure for their businesses since we now have space to permanently display our sponsor banners everyday throughout the concert season. All and all, the chamber sees this move for Frederick Road Fridays as a win win for everyone in Catonsville, with even more businesses and non-profit groups benefiting from its impact.

The chamber is pleased that this new location has also established a relationship with the Chertkof family that own the Mews on Mellor. We appreciate how gracious they have been in working with us, as has Sally Grace of Peace A Pizza.
