Summer is here, and you know what that means—time to find ways to cool off from the heat!

Check out some of these Catonsville hotspots to stay cool throughout the summer.

Sweet Treats

Opie's Soft Serve and Snowballs
1603 Edmondson Ave.Catonsville
Open daily, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
A neighborhood ice cream shop led by owner Beth Reymann, Opie's offers many treats, including snowballs, soft serve ice cream, snow creams, waffle cones, sundaes, ice cream cookies, shakes and more. The shop has 39 flavors of snowballs to choose from.

You Scream Ice Cream
821 Frederick RoadCatonsville
Open Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 8 p.m., Sunday till 6 p.m.
Named the best ice cream parlor in Maryland by USA Today in 2010, and subsequently featured on WJZ-TV Morning Edition, You Scream Ice Cream offers numerous flavors and types, including hand-dipped Hershey's premium ice cream, non-dairy soft serve, snowballs, fresh fruit smoothies, Italian ice and retro candies. The shop also has a family-oriented, classic DVD selection which includes musicals, sitcoms, and "talkies". Hosting an ice cream social? The location also offers catering!

Sweet Frog

This Virginia-based frozen yogurt shop opened its doors in Catonsville last February and offers 16 flavors of yogurt and more than 60 toppings. Plus, if you text FROG9 to 25399, you can enter to win 12-oz. cup of free yogurt!

Testing Waters

Crosby Crossing Swim Club
1315 Black Friars Road, Catonsville
Open daily, noon to 9 p.m.
Crosby Crossing Swim Club, formerly known as the Westview Swim Club, has been in the community for more than 50 years. It is a member-owned pool with most of its members residing in Catonsville and Ellicott City. The club also hosts year-round activities including movie nights from April through October.

Come in to splash and play, do laps or get extra practice on your own time at its indoor pool, featuring six lanes and depth from three to nine feet. The center also offers family-friendly activities, including family swim nights.

Too bad you can't use the pools unless you pay for a membership. Be nice to have a splash pad nearby.

Roger Carter Rec Center in Ellicott City , right of of Main Street use to be a pay per visit pool . I took my kids there all the time when they were little . Then we put in our own pool . Also North Arundel Swim Center , they even have an indoor water park . Enjoy !
