The UMBC men's basketball program announced on Monday that Brian Johnson will take over as an assistant coach while Kevin Noon will become director of basketball operations.

Johnson, a Maryland native and a standout at Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore, was the director of basketball operations last year. He moves up to an assistant under second-year head coach Aki Thomas.

Noon worked at the University of Miami as a graduate assistant last year. He helped with opponent scouting, video operations, individual player workouts and statistical analysis.

"Kevin has been around some coaches whom I really look up to,” Thomas said in a press release. “They helped me to get to know him and expressed just how hard of a worker he is and how much he’ll be able to assist our program.”

Thomas took over as the interim coach just before the start of practice last October. UMBC improved to 8-23 and made it to the America East semifinals after upsetting No. 3 Hartford in the first round. Thomas was named the coach after the season ended.
