UMBC Grad Zach Clark Recalled by Orioles

The 29-year-old pitcher has not yet pitched in the majors.

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly calling up a homegrown arm.

MASN reports right-handed pitcher Zach Clark, a graduate, is en route from Triple-A Norfolk to Seattle and will be recalled by the Orioles.

The Orioles are in the middle of a three-game series there against the Mariners.

Clark, 29, is already on the Orioles' 40-man roster, but a move will have to be made to get him on the active 25-man roster.

The pitcher signed with the Orioles in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. He agreed to terms in a UMBC parking lot, according to the MASN report.

In eight seasons in the minors, Clark is 50-46 with a 3.71 ERA.

Clark isn't the only local to don the black and orange lately. Pitcher Steve Johnson, a Kingsville native and St. Paul's School alum, made his major league debut for the Orioles last season, as did outfielder L.J. Hoes, a Mitchellville resident.

A fourth, former pitcher Joe Saunders, a Northern Virginia native and a key arm in the Orioles' playoff run last season, was the Mariners' winning pitcher in the Orioles' loss Monday in Seattle.
