Comets Whittington Named to All-County Squad, Schwaab All-Division

Point guard Zoey Whittington makes the All-Baltimore County team for second straight season. Junior Rachel Schwaab garners all-division honors, as well.

For the second straight season, Zoey Whittington’s play on the court has earned her first team honors for Baltimore County. In fact, the point guard brought in the third highest vote total from area coaches who select the team.

In addition to her infamous lockdown defense, the Comets senior averaged over 15 points per game along with six rebounds, five steals and four rebounds.

“It’s just athleticism, toughness and a high level of play,” head coach Mike Mohler said. “[She brings] seriousness and all out effort to the game, plus she’s a once in a lifetime top flight athlete. When you combine all that—and she had extraordinary leadership skills this year. She took that role seriously and it played dividends.”

Catonsville finished 18-7 on the season including playoff wins over Western and Milford Mill before falling to Hereford in the 3A North Semifinals.

Whittington wasn’t the only player to earn postseason recognition for the Comets.

Do-it-all forward Rachel Schwaab earned first team All-Division honors, as well.

Schwaab, a junior, relishes carrying out the “little things” on the court such as boxing out, diving for loose balls and being an all-out hustle player—in addition to the contributions she already makes as one of the Comets best scoring options (inside or outside) and arguably their best rebounder.

The forward is your classic stat-sheet-stuffer, meaning she produces in every aspect of the box score—points, assists, rebounds, steals and blocks.
