Zipcars Have Arrived at UMBC

Cars have been on campus for about two weeks

Zipcar is has expanded to southwestern Baltimore County, with two cars now available for use on the campus of .

The vehicles, which are located on Center Road outside the Student Development and Success Center, are part of a network of cars in the Baltimore metopolitan area.

Ellice Perez, the general manager for the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area for Zipcar, said the company has targeted college campuses for a number of years.

Elsewhere in the region, Zipcars have been available on the campuses of Towson University, Goucher College, Morgan State University and the Johns Hopkins University.The fleet of cars on campus at Hopkins started with two cars and now is at 22 cars, she said.

"It's a good audience for us," she said. "If [students or staff] need to go to Ikea or the grocery store, they can use a Zipcar."

In the past year, Zipcar also expanded to the city of Baltimore and UMBC has been the most recent addition of locations.

Anyone in the greater community can also use the Zipcars, Perez said.
