Students Commended by National Merit Scholarship Program

Matthew Avera of Catonsville and four students at Western Tech receive distinction from national scholarship program.

Five area students received Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program, according to their schools.

The students include Catonsville resident Matthew Avara, a senior at Archbishop Curley High School; and Christian Stafford, Farhaan Khalik, and Brandon Pryor of Western School of Technology and Environmental Sciences.

The commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 exam, according to the program.
