Meet Catonsville High School's Valedictorian and Salutatorian

As students graduate from Catonsville High School at UMBC at 7 p.m. tonight, there will be two students whose hard work stands out: Valedictorian Caitlin Wheatley and Salutatorian Laura Gevarter. Patch caught up with them before they finished school to bring you their stories.

Caitlin Wheatley

College attending: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Declared Major: Aerospace Engineering

Activities involved in at CHS: member of the steel drum band, president of Math Honors Society, member of the National Honors Society and French Honors Society

Activity she'll miss the most: Steel drum band: "There were 20 of us and we were all really close."

Favorite class: Calculus

Favorite teacher: "All of the teachers are really great here."

Best piece of advice she received: "Take chances and go for it."

Favorite memories: Prom and steel drum band concerts

What she is most proud of: Getting into MIT

Laura Gevarter

College attending: Georgetown University

Declared Major: Middle Eastern International Relations and Linguistics

Activities involved in: Student Government Association president, Drama Club president, roles in multiple theater productions, helped teach at a local Hebrew school, member of the Girls Scouts

Favorite class: "I like so many. I loved studying everything."

Activity she'll miss the most: "The theater group has been my family."

Best piece of advice she received: "If you put in a little more time and effort, in the end it's twice as rewarding."

What she is most proud of: Getting straight As in all classes every quarter.
