Longtime UMBC Athletic Director To Retire

Dr. Charles Brown, who has been on the job for 24 years, works his last day in the post June 30, but will still be a UMBC employee.

Dr. Charles Brown, director of athletics, physical education and recreation at UMBC, plans to retire June 30 and move to a different position at the school.

When Brown steps down, that is going to finish a 24-year run tenure where UMBC has grown across the board into a stronger Division I program. The school was just getting started in that area when Brown took over.

Brown has helped put together a strong program of Division athletics at UMBC, according to a press release from the school on Tuesday.
