Hillcrest Elementary School Students Hope to Get in the Record Books With Jumping Jacks

School hopes to break the world record as part of an initiative from First Lady Michelle Obama.

A total of 760 students at gathered outside Tuesday afternoon and did jumping jacks for one minute.

The students were taking part in an initiative by First Lady Michelle Obama to break the Guiness Book of World Records for the most jumping jacks in a 24-hour period.

Other schools in Maryland participated through the Maryland Association for Health, Physical Educatio, Recreation and Dance.

All of the students were lined up outside before 3 p.m. Each class had a jumping jack captain to help lead the students. At 3 p.m., physical education teacher Sue Mason started the time for a minue of jumping jacks.

For the record to be broken, more than 20,000 people need to do jumping jacks for one minute around the world.
