Former UMBC Pitcher Gets Spring Training Win for Orioles

Zach Clark got the win for the Orioles in their spring training opener on Saturday.

Former UMBC pitcher Zach Clark got off to a good start with the Orioles in spring training Saturday when he earned the win in the team's first exhbition game.

Clark threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning, and the game was tied 3-3 when Trayvon Robinson hit a game-winning two-run homer for Baltimore in the bottom half.

That made Clark the pitcher of record, and he got the win when the Orioles held on for the 5-3 victory over the Twins.

The Orioles used nine different pitchers in the game as manager Buck Showalter took a look at several players. Clark finally made the 40-man roster last fall, and it will be interesting to see what kind of a look he gets from the team.

Clark graduated from UMBC in 2006 and signed with the Orioles as an undrafted free agent.
