CCBC President is Association's Woman of Year

Sandra Kurtinitis is recognized by the American Association of Women in Community Colleges.

The American Association of Women in Community College selected CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis as the 2011 Mildred Bulpitt Woman of the Year.

The award is given for outstanding service of women in two-year community colleges, according to a release from CCBC.

"Dr. Kurtinitis exemplifies the ultimate professional: competent, compassionate, and of the highest character,” said AAWCC President Cynthia Bioteau.  “Through her leadership and mentorship of women, we have all gained access and accomplishment. I am truly grateful to her."

The award is named after AAWCC founding member Mildred Bulpitt, who also mentored women through the organization and the National Institute for Leadership Development.

Kurtinitis said she was incredibly honored to receive the award.

“Mildred Bulpitt is an icon among women within community colleges and has served as an inspiration to many," she said.

Prior to becoming president of CCBC, Kurtinitis was president for 10 years of Quinsigamond Community College in Massachusetts. She has worked in community colleges for 44 years.
