Open Space in Baltimore County

New legislation in Baltimore County to protect Open Space.

Over the past ten years, business and residential growth has overtaken some of Maryland’s natural forest and other open space. Councilmen David Marks and Tom Quirk have proposed legislation for open-space in Baltimore County that would protect green space.

This bill would help maintain the beauty of Catonsville and keep contractors from using the land to build oversized-houses that are squeezed too close together. Stricter legislation for open-space would require any proposed development to take into consideration the overall effect on the community.

Walking through Catonsville during the spring months is traditionally full of lawn parties, blooming gardens and kids who are thrilled mom is finally letting them leave the house without their winter coat.

We have limited green space already. This bill is not just to keep some trees from being cut down. It is a call to our neighborhood to embrace the nature that surrounds us and for businesses to think about the land as well as their wallets.
