Catonsville Weather Alert: Standing Water Accumulating on Frederick Road at South Rolling Road

Rain will continue through afternoon hours

Standing water continues to be a problem around Catonsville and the region and rain continues to fall into the afternoon and evening hours. A Flood Warning reminds in effect. Up to two inches of water have fallen in some parts of the state.

Several inches of standing water have slowly been accumulating just east of the intersection of Frederick and South Rolling Roads. Dismissal at Hillcrest Elementary School went smoothly despite the water, but commuters will still have to navigate the intersection.

Water is also accumulating on South Rolling Road from Bloomsbury Avenue north to Frederick Road. Ingleside Avenue is also accumulating large amounts of standing water just north of Frederick Road.

Heavy rains are creating potentially hazardous driving conditions in Catonsville. Several inches of standing water is just east of the intersection of Frederick and Rolling Roads.

Baltimore County Police and Maryland SHA are aware of the water, as well as Hillcrest Elementary Principal Theresa McVey. School is expected to dimiss normally, with the assistance of police and staff personnel.

(11 a.m.) With a one-half of an inch of rain already on the ground in Catonsville, there is still a long way to go before this storm moves out of the area.

The National Weather Service is predicting up to three inches of rain to fall by the the time the rain stop tomorrow morning. Heavy rain is expected to continue through this afternoon, with a chance for thunderstorms in the evening. A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire region.

Maryland State Highway Administration isn't reporting any roads closed due to standing water, but crews are on standby. According to SHA, just six inches of water can sweep you off your feet and two feet of rapidly moving water on a road is enough to float a bus.

Gov. Martin O'Malley also said in a release this morning that officials with the Maryland Emergency Management are on alert as well.

“Maryland’s emergency response and preparedness agencies remain focused on monitoring this event, supporting local jurisdictions as needed, and ensuring all Marylanders are prepared and conduct themselves sensibly throughout this storm," he said in a release.
