Man Who Tried to Blow Up Catonsville Recruiting Center Gets 25 Years

Antonio Martinez was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

A U.S. District Court judge Friday sentenced Antonio Martinez to 25 years in prison for his role in attempting to set off a bomb at a Catonsville military recruiting center in December of 2010. The bomb was a fake and was part of an FBI sting.

Martinez, also known as Muhammad Hussain, entered a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in October 2011. He was charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction against federal property.

The 22-year-old Baltimore man was arrested by FBI agents on Dec. 8, 2010 after he attempted to set off the fake bomb in an SUV in the parking lot of the on Baltimore National Pike.

Martinez had been under surveillance for months after a confidential informant alerted FBI officers to his plans, .

He also wrote posts on making references to terrorist acts and devotion to extreme Islam.

Martinez spoke in court on Friday, accepting responsibility for the attempted attack, according to the Baltimore Sun.
