Edmondson Avenue Light to be Operational in 2013

Catonsville residents have been wondering about the reasons behind the traffic light pole installed at Edmondson Avenue and Interstate 695.

But after Patch reported last week that it was part of the construction related to the replacement of the Frederick Road bridge, there was still some outstanding questions about how the lights would impact the intersection.

SHA officials told Patch last week that more light poles need to be installed at the intersection in the future. The light will also not be operational until the spring of 2013.

The traffic light pole that has been installed is on the northwest side of Edmondson Avenue at the entrance ramp to the beltway. This pole only has one mast arm for traffic control for westbound Edmondson Avenue traffic. 

An additional pole with two mast arms will be installed on the northeast quadrant.  One signal will control eastbound Edmondson Avenue traffic and another will control traffic exiting the beltway from the Inner Loop at Edmondson Avenue.

The $20 million project, which is expected to be completed in 2013, included other improvements to the roads surrounding the bridge, such as a new median on Interstate 695 and new pavement on Interstate 695.
