Lane Shifts on Frederick Road Bridge Will Start This Week

Traffic on the bridge will move to the south side to make way for construction.

Starting this week, traffic on the Frederick Road bridge over the Baltimore Beltway will shift to allow for the next phase in construction of the replacement bridge. All traffic on the bridge will move to the south side of the bridge, according to SHA officials. Construction will close the sidewalk on the westbound side of the bridge, but the sidewalk on the eastbound side of the bridge will stay open during construction. It will take two nights for crews to shift the lanes, starting at 9 p.m. and working until 5 a.m. They will first put down barrels and mark the pavement before they install barriers. There will be crew members guiding traffic on the bridge overnight with flags. Editor's note: An earlier version of the article stated that the shift would start Wednesday night. Because of the heavy amounts of rain, the shift may be delayed through next week.
