Erickson Living Part of State Initiative to Use Electronic Medical Records

Lt. Governor Announces Milestone at Charlestown in Catonsville Monday.

More than 1,000 primary care providers in Maryland have signed up to use electronic health records, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown announced in a press conference Monday at in Catonsville.

Erickson Living, the company that operates Charlestown, is one of the partners in the Chesapeake Regional Information Systems for our Patients (CRISP). The group also includes Johns Hopkins Medicine, MedStar Health, and the University of Maryland, according to a press release. The partnership was formed in 2009 and in 2010 received $6.4 million in federal funds to become the Regional Extension Center for health care providers.

The regional center, which Erickson is a part of, will be the place that the health care providers will receive the technology and assstance to adopt electronic health records. Gov. Martin O'Malley has made it a goal that there be a statewide health information exchange by the end of 2012.
