(UPDATED) Volunteers Find Man’s Body in Search for Missing Teen

Maryland State Police took over investigation of a body found at Patapsco State Park, but search for missing teen turned up nothing.

Maryland State Police announced Saturday afternoon that the body of an unidentified man was found at Patapsco State Park during a massive search for Phylicia Barnes, a teenage girl missing from the Baltimore area since December.

Police said foul play is not suspected but an investigation will continue as the body is transported for identification and autopsy.

The man was wearing “multiple layers of clothing” and his body was partially decayed, according to police.

The Barnes search, however, did not result in any “relevant” findings, according to Baltimore Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, who spoke to reporters near Patapsco State Park.

“We are working around the clock … to try and bring some closure to this,” Guglielmi said. Police asked that anyone with information contact the Baltimore police homicide unit at 855-223-0033.

As reported in the Baltimore Sun, hundreds of police officers and volunteers searched Patapsco Valley State Park for a second time after the disappearance of Barnes.

Among the last people to see Barnes were her half-sister, whom the girl was visiting around Christmas, and an ex-boyfriend of the half-sister, according to news reports. Barnes was visiting from her home state of North Carolina.

An initial search in the area occurred earlier in the year, but a police spokesperson told reporters Saturday that search was inhibited by snow and frozen ground.
