Police: Head-On Collision with Bus Killed Man in Woodlawn

Kirby Alexander Cooper, Sr., died in a rush-hour collision Wednesday evening.

Kirby Alexander Cooper Sr. is the man who died Wednesday in the evening rush-hour collision at Woodlawn and Parallel Drives, police say.

At 5:15 p.m., Cooper, 71, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup "southbound in the northbound lane of Woodlawn Drive," where an MTA bus had just turned into the northbound lane, according to a news release from the Baltimore County Police Department.

"The Ford struck the bus head on," it states.

Cooper, a resident of the 2000 block of Royal Court Drive, Woodlawn, was declared deceased at the scene, it states. Bus driver Alan Jerome Shanks, 52, of the 1700 block of Waverly Way, Loch Raven, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma with serious injuries.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is investigating. 

"Seven other patients were transported by EMS personnel to hospitals, all with non-life threatening injuries," the release states. They were passengers on the bus.

Among them were Inez Jones, 55, and Hassan Ghee, 20, who went to Shock Trauma, it states.

Five women, Rosalind Scott, 54; Marsha Reaves, 62; Vanessa Pugh, 60; Anastasia Lowery, 22; and Angela Carmichael, 58, were taken to Sinai Hospital.
