Police officers, friends and family members honored officer Jason Schneider, 36, Wednesday evening, hours after he was gunned down in a fatal shootout.

A veteran Baltimore County police officer, Schneider suffered a fatal gunshot wound while serving a warrant inside a Catonsville home Wednesday morning. A person inside the home was also killed.

Several hundred police officers and county employees gathered for the ceremonial wreath laying in Schneider's honor at a monument to officers killed in the line of duty. The monument is in Towson near the historic Courthouse and Baltimore County Circuit Court Building.

I am a resident of old catonsville...My heart and prayers go out to officer schenider family and his two little angels...I feel as if I knew this family....I AM A FIRM BELIEVER THAT IF SOMEONE TAKES A LIFE....THEN THAT PERSON SHOULD GET THE DEATH PENALTY ...GOVERNOR PASS THE LAW!!!!!WE NEED TOUGHER GUN LAWS HERE IN MARYLAND....Yesterday~s shooting was a sensless one....and I sure hope soon they catch that other guy who is on the loose...He probably is in the neighborhood somewhere hiding out....That coward should come forward....I will be keeping this family in prayers as they have a long road ahead of them and they will find comfort and peace soon....I know that their hearts are aching now.... May the angels always surround his wife and two children and family with everlasting love always.... May God be ever at your side and grant that every day will bring its gift of brighter hours and special thoughts your way.... May God bless you.... Mary
