Memorial Set for Western Tech Grad Who Drowned at College

David Esan, 17, a graduate of Western Tech, was found in a pool after a party at Hampton University.

Randallstown native David Esan played was highly regarded at Hampton University, where he played piano and performed in the choir and was recognized for his committment to academics and community service.

The freshman pharmacy student, a graduate of Western School of Technology and Environmental Science, attended a pool party last week on his Virginia college's campus, and drowned, according to WVEC-TV in Virginia.

"Rest in peace, I know you're playing in a heavenly choir," one student wrote on one of Esan's YouTube posts. The post is of him playing "I Stand in Awe of You," on piano.

A memorial service is being held at noon Wednesday at Ogden Hall, Hampton University, according to the WVEC-TV report.

Esan began a Twitter account the day before the party and posted encouraging words to Western Tech students about preparing for college.

He talks about attending the pool party, studying and about his upcoming birthday April 6.

Others planned to celebrate his birthday and others' birthdays at the upcoming College Collision event, one of his followers wrote.

His Twitter account also showed signs of hometown pride, with mentions of the Superbowl Champs. "The Ravens won't be the same without Ed Reed...," he wrote.
