Police: Lock Your Doors When Doing Yard Work

Patch was at the Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization meeting Tuesday night in Arbutus.

The Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization, which is made up of community members in Precinct One/Wilkens, met on Tuesday night at the Maiden Choice School in Arbutus. Here's what you need to know:

1. The organization renamed its student scholarship after the late Maryland state Sen. , who died in December. Representatives from state and county elected offices honored Murphy. Her family was also in attendance.

2. Officers from the Baltimore County Police Marine Unit shared information about what that unit does. Baltimore County has the second highest number of registered boats in Maryland, behind Anne Arundel, Sgt. Wayne Lloyd said. Every ship that enters Baltimore city has to go through Baltimore County, he said.

3. With spring weather here and many residents outside doing yard work in the evenings or the weekends, homes can be vulnerable to break-ins. Officers suggested that when doing work outside for long periods, it is best to lock your door and carry a cell phone with you.
