Firefighters, BGE Crew Respond to Kitchen Fire on Bloomsbury Avenue

Contractors working on the street rescued three people from second floor of burning building.

Firefighters from three stations responded to a kitchen fire late this morning at 43 Bloomsbury Avenue that completely gutted the inside of the home.

Firefighters received the call shortly after 11 a.m., according to officers on the scene. The fire started on the first floor in the back of the home.

Three people were in the home at the time and were rescued by BGE contractors working on Bloomsbury Avenue.

Edwin Bentura, a contractor with BGE, said he saw the smoke pouring out of the building and ran around the back where they saw the flames.

Bentura and his two co-workers put one of their ladders up on the roof and helped three people down, just as firefighters were responding, he said.

"There was just a lot of smoke and we heard people calling for help," he said.

Engines from Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company and as well as Catonsville Station 4 and Westview Station 13 for the Baltimore County Fire Department.
