Explosive Device Found at Church

"Bottle bomb" exploded at St. Stephen Lutheran Church on Oct. 1.

Somebody threw a "bottle bomb" off the roof of St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 901 Courtney Rd. on Oct. 1, according to police.

At around 5:30 p.m., a witness observed an unknown male on the roof of the church who threw an item to the ground that exploded, according to a report issued by the police.

The bomb squad responded to the scene and collected evidence, the report said.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Cathleen Batton described the explosive item as a green 20 ounce 7-Up bottle with a hole in the bottom.
