Early Morning Fire at Western Tech Under Investigation

Firefighters were alerted to a blaze at the Catonsville school Thursday.

Fire officials are investigating a blaze early Thursday morning on the campus of Western Tech in Catonsville.

Crews were called to the school on the 100 block of Kenwood Avenue at around 2:34 a.m., according to fire officials.

At the school, firefighters found one portable classroom engulfed in flames, which had spread to another nearby classroom, according to a release from the Baltimore County Fire Department.

A second alarm had been called in case the fire spread to the main school building; there was smoke inside and fire damage to the roof, according to the release.

The fire was declared under control at 3:31 a.m. The school was closed for the day, according to a WBAL-TV report.

About 24 fire vehicles from Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Howard County, and between 75 to 100 firefighters responded to the scene. No injuries were reported, according to the release. The cause is still under investigation.
