Catonsville Man Charged in Copper Theft

Thomas Anthony Haigler, 40, of the 100 block of Egges Ln., caught after copper downspouts were taken from St. Marks for the third time in a month.

Police charged a Catonsville man with burglary on Nov. 8 after he was seen removing copper downspouts from St. Marks Church at 30 Melvin Ave., according to a report.

At around 11:10 p.m., a suspect was observed removing copper downspouts from the sides of St. Marks and collecting them in a pile in the parking lot, the police report said.

The witness called police, who located and detained the suspect nearby, according to the report. The witness gave a positive ID of the suspect, the report said.

Thomas Anthony Haigler, 40, of the 100 block of Egges Ln., was charged with grand theft and fourth-degree burglary, according to police.

The Nov. 8 incident is the third time copper rain gutters and drainpipes were stolen from St. Marks in a month. Sometime between Oct. 12-15, two 30-foot sections of drain pipes were taken from St. Marks School. A 25-foot section of copper downspout was taken from the church sometime between Oct. 26-29.
