Accessories

Something we seriously need to talk about is accessories. I've had many clients tell me recently that accessories aren’t that important to them, or they would rather leave them to the end of their projects.Today I’m going to show you why accessories are so important to give a room that ‘completed’ look that keeps us all picking up design magazines.

A room is more than nice furniture and fabrics. Accessories have a way of making the room look more welcoming, and can add a touch of the personal aspect. Below I have taken one of our vignettes at the Catonsville Ethan Allen design center to show what our room would be like without any accessories. The first picture shows the room exactly how you would see it on our design center floor, along with the full ‘finished’ look everyone is looking for. When you look at the second picture you can immediately notice that something important is missing. These accessories add not only the light in the room, but also help tie in that real romantic feeling that is missing without all of these pieces! A correctly accessorized room should generally account for 30% of your budget.

What we do at the Catonsville Ethan Allen is work in phases. Maybe phase one is the bed, nightstands, lamps, dresser, rug, mirror and the pictures over the bed. Phase two could be the bedding, bed benches, sofa, two tables next to sofa and lamps. Finally, the third phase could be the pictures over sofa, chair, accent table, and the accessories remaining on the nightstands and dresser. I understand that we are all working on budgets these days and we can work with you to achieve what you looking for.
