Ginkgo: The Tree that Time Forgot - Horticultural Society of Maryland Lecture

Presented by Sir Peter Crane, former director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and current Dean of the School of Forestry at
Yale University, the discussion will explore the history of the distinctive Ginkgo tree, a living link to the age of dinosaurs that has remained essentially unchanged for more than two hundred million years.  Dr. Crane will take guests on a fascinating journey that begins with the tree’s mysterious origins and continues to cover its proliferation, drastic decline and ultimate resurgence as well as addressing its cultural and social significance.  Copies of Dr. Crane’s book, Ginkgo: The Tree That Time Forgot, will be available for sale and signing by the author after the lecture.

Admission to the  Spring Lecture Series is free for members of the Horticultural Society of Maryland as well as their guests when they show a current membership card.  Admission for the general public is $10 and can be purchased at the door.  The Vollmer Center at Cylburn Arboretum is located at 4915 Greenspring Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21209.  For more information about the series, call 410-821-5561, email programs@mdhorticulture.org or visit www.mdhorticulture.org.
