Explore ‘The Challenges of Violence in American Society Today’ at four free forums
3 p.m., Feb. 13, March 6, April 17 and May 1, CCBC Catonsville


BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (Feb. 1, 2013) – The Social Sciences department of the Community College of Baltimore County is hosting four forums examining “The Challenges of Violence in American Society Today" this spring. These Wednesday forums will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 13, March 6, April 17 and May 1 in room K-100, in the K Building at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road. Sheri Parks, Ph.D., associate professor of American Studies, University of Maryland, College Park
The author of “Fierce Angels: The Strong Black Woman in American Life and Culture,” Dr. Parks earned her Ph.D. in Communications Studies from the University of Massachusetts. She teaches graduate courses on “Marginality and Popular Culture,” and “Social Activism and Popular Culture,” as well as undergraduate courses on “Family and Popular Culture” and “Children and Television.” Dr. Parks is uniquely qualified to discuss the central role of violence in American history and culture and how the contemporary media supports and reinforces violent solutions to conflict.
