Traffic Calming Measures Planned For Catonsville Roads

Baltimore County has implemented them at one intersection with another one on the way.

Traffic on two Catonsville roads will likely slow down, after traffic calming measures were implemented or are on the way.

Chantilla Road recently received a raised intersection at Dlong Road, after it qualified for traffic calming measures. A raised intersection has also been installed at Academy Heights.

Dorchester Road is also slated for speed humps, which will be installed after the county repaves the road sometime in the fall, according to Department of Public Works spokesman David Fidler.

In order for a road to qualify for traffic calming measures, residents must apply for traffic calming measures with the Public Works department. County engineers will then study the road and assign it points based on the following five factors: traffic volume, speed, cut-through traffic, school zones nearby and sidewalks nearby.

Baltimore County Councilman Tom Quirk said his office has worked with residents of Chantilla Road and other communities of Catonsville to work to solve speeding.
