The Breadery Finds a New Home in Oella

The community is invited to check out the new location at a customer appreciation celebration Saturday.

The Breadery, an artisan gourmet bakery, has moved into its new establishment at 418 Oella Ave. Previously it was located on Route 40 in Ellicott City.

“After 15 years in the business, we were longing to own our own property,” said Mike Lanasa, owner and operator.

The new residence also enjoys close proximity to the Trolley Line # 9 Trail, which runs between Catonsville and Ellicott City. Lanasa said the bakery now has more foot traffic with numerous joggers and bicyclists stopping by.

It took two-and-a-half years to restore the building on Oella Ave., but Lanasa is happy with the modifications they were able to make to the space.

“There are lots of green elements,” he said, from the floors made of recycled tires and cork to the abundance of natural light and reflective roofing paint.

The windows are modern thermal panels made to look like old-fashioned factory windows, while the wood found in the storeroom's ceiling is 80-year-old ash from a reclaimed barn.

The production area where the baked goods are created has many special features as well. The owners brought the oven from Europe for their artisan breads as well as a small window to the storeroom.  Loaves of bread can easily be passed from the oven right into the store.

“We make the artisan breads out of freshly milled whole grains, so you eliminate the chemical processing and it’s a lot more healthy,” explained Lanasa.

The bakery also makes an assortment of gourmet breads such as cheese and cinnamon swirl.

Though they are officially up and running already, The Breadery is having a customer appreciation celebration at its new location next Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Community members are invited to stop by for the cookout and sample different breads and gourmet dips.
